  1. I feel like the controversies going on in Egypt and Syria has alot of death surrounding it. Death tolls are constantly rising and when death is that constant, I feel like we become numb to it.

  2. The suffering in Syria has the attention of many. Thousands have passed and I don't think many people realize how serious of an issue this is. Death seems to be rising and the question still remains if there is anything we can do to stop or prevent it. I feel like in our culture, we don't take death as serious as needed. We basically hear death and overlook it. Death is nothing to be overlooked and as a society, we should be doing everything in our power to try and prevent it.

    1. I do not think we overlook death but I think we are compassionate for those who we relate to. Syria is a Muslim culture, which is much different from our own and so we almost overlook death in these situations. If the chemicals were to be used on the United States, you could only imagine how devastated people would be. If you think about 911, 3000 of own own americans died and our country was and still is distraught about it. In syria, 1400 civilians died and yet the majority of americans dont think we should intervene. If we were to do nothing we would be letting a totalitarian dictator kill thousand of innocent civilians.

  3. I noticed the crisis in Syria going on as well. I just don't understand why people would do these kind of things to each other. It's a horrible situation, thousands of people have died, and I feel like it is going to get worse...especially if the US decides to get involved.

  4. Since the previous comments have been about the situation in Syria, I thought that I would comment on this as well. Death is an issue that we tend to take lightly. We tend to forget that when people die that they are gone. If the deaths are in another country, we tend to just turn our heads because it is not affecting us. However, we forget that we are all on the world and that this is our situation as well. I am not quite sure how I am feel about the U.S. getting involved, however I am not sure how I feel about us ignoring what is going on as well.

  5. The events happening in the country of Syria is the biggest topic involving death and dying. Since this event started there has been a lot of death in this country. Now, with the U.S. prepared to enter into the conflict I think there will be even more death then there was before.

NYTimes: Jury Sentences Hasan to Death for Fort Hood Rampage

Major Hasan had been found guilty of 45 counts of murder and attempted murder in an attack called the deadliest act of terrorism on American soil since 2001.

  7. A man from London, Ky. was arrested for shooting his wife in what he says was a mercy killing. Apparently, his cancer-stricken wife asked him to stop the pain for good because her cancer was getting progressively worse. I'm curious to see what the court does with this case.

  8. (New York Times) I just read that in Baghdad around dusk, car bombs went off targeting an ice cream place, a bus station, and a popular restaurant in which killed at least 46 people but while reading this article I noticed that it wasn't the only bombing that had happened in Bagdad within 48 hours of one another. Earlier that same day, 5 Iraquis were killed. There have been several occurrences where this has been happening and it makes me curious as to why people find the need to kill. Why do people find the need to kill someone else? If only death was a natural occurrence that happened, then I think that there would obviously be much more peace in the world. Then again, I don't really know how that would make this world too much better considering that the population would dramatically increase so I'm not really sure. I just think it's kind of interesting.

  9. I just read about Georgia teen's autopsy showed that his death wasn't a accidental death. The autopsy showed that Kendrick Johnson had blunt force trauma but this wasn't found when he was found rolled up in a gym mad at Lowndes County High School on January 11. On January 25 the crime lab of Lowndes county said he didn't have any signs on his face or body. so his family lawyer got the body exhumed so the could run a better autopsy. the autopsy was June 15 and found the blunt force trauma. I found this crazy that you could find a 17 year old rolled up in a gym mat and not think foul play and do an autopsy.

  10. I just read that Ariel Castro was found hanging in his prison cell on Tuesday night at 9:20pm. Castro was found guilty of 937 counts and these included the kidnapping of the three girls and rape. It is not known how he was able to commit suicide, but the Ohio department of Corrections is reviewing the incident. I'm interested in finding out in further detail what happened and possibly even what the families of the girls who were the victims have to say. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/05/us/ariel-castro-cleveland-kidnapper-found-dead-in-prison-cell.html?hp&_r=0
