Here's the Three Minute Philosophy video about Plato generally

Here's another video about the Cave Analogy

I can't find the funny, vulgar video, but I'll keep looking and hopefully will post it later.

What's Plato's diagnosis about the human condition? What's his prescription? Do you agree or not? Explain.
I see Plato's diagnosis as being that humans are unwilling to change their ways of thinking or unwilling to find other ways to think. we are very set in our ways, and as Plato states in his video, it is easier to introduce a new concept or thought when someone has had some form of previous contact with said idea or though. it is easier to convince the man who has seen the sun, that it is more real than our shadows, than it is to convince someone who has only seen shadows, that they are fake, and that something such as the sun even exists.
ReplyDeleteI see that how he says to break out of this mindset is to expose oneself to new ideas or thoughts, such as the cave men was exposed to the sun, it is better to go out, than be stuck in the cave.
I believe Plato's diagnosis was simple and that it was humans don't want to change their ways or want to find new ways to think. Humans believe that if it isn't a broken way of thinking or broken way of living then why change it. Plato believes that to introduce new ideas to people they have to have some form of past experience with that idea. I agree that for people to learn a new idea they need to have experienced it some way in the past that way that way they can embrace it.
