I don't believe in this country or society there is an honorable way to commit sluiced and as we discussed yesterday that if you give up your life to save others that is an honorable DEATH but not suicide if the device of death comes from somewhere or someone else than you are considered a hero as you rightfully should
I like the idea of not considering it suicide when death is coming from somewhere or someone else. I think that even if we can say that these situations, by definition, fit suicide, they should not be referred to as such. I don't say this because I think it's incorrect, but it's incorrect with our common belief and image of a suicide. I don't think we should consider it an honorable form of suicide if someone is giving their lives to save others but agree with calling these situation an honorable death. Suicide has too many negative connotations in our society in my opinion.
I believe that there is an honorable suicide, because soldiers lay down their life so that we will live in peace. I think that takes a lot for a person willingly to do that. I don't think they get the respect that they need. The perpetrator of school shooting get more new coverage than a solider who has died fight for our country.
yes, i believe there is an honorable form of suicide. for example: a house catches on fire and there is a little kid inside and someone with out thinking runs in and gets the child. The child is safe but as they get the child out a beam falls on the person and kills them. I feel like that is an honorable suicide, because they gave up their life to save someone.
I think there is an honorable form of suicide but because of the negative connotation of the word suicide. I see it as more of a self sacrifice for something else in the case of a soldier or saving a child from a burning building
I do believe that there is such a thing as honorable suicide. We always here about soldiers sacrificing their lives for fellow soldiers and also police and firefighters sacrificing themselves to save others.I believe for a person to act like this they have a considerable amount of courage to give up their life for another.
Kind of like what Casey said, in the victim's eyes it seems like the only path or option to take at that time. For me personally however, I see suicide as weakness, the coward's way out so to say. There's always a better alternative than to take your own life, even if the pressure of whatever situation feels too great there will always be a better way to handle it than suicide.
I think its important to remember as Casey said that the people who commit suicide do not see another option. We may want to look at it and say that there is always a better alternative than that final suicidal act as Cory said. In their view it must be right or this wouldn't occur so much in my opinion.
I don't think anyone can view suicide as right or wrong because suicide is not a black and white situation. If a person commits suicide, it is not a rashly made decision. I also don't think that anyone can judge someone for committing suicide because they do not understand the situation that they are in. Suicide should not be viewed as so taboo and negative because suicide is still a death that should still be mourned.
I disagree, I do not believe that euthanasia is morally acceptable. Even if someone is terminally ill it is no reason to shorten their life any more, for in actuality we are all terminally ill. I recognize that there can be a great deal of suffering associated with the end of a person’s life, but euthanasia is not the right way go. We should make sure that individuals who are dying are as comfortable as possible, but we should let the process end naturally.
yes, I do believe that there is an honorable form of suicide. If someone sacrifices they're own life for someone else' whether it be by pushing them out of harms way or take a bullet that was intended for them then I believe that there is some honor with that. To me euthanasia is acceptable. Humans aren't meant to live as long as we do and when we do its usually years of having others to take care of you. I personally would hate to be dependent on other people just so can stay alive for a few more years.
I had never really believed in an honorable suicide until this class. In fact, I always thought that suicide was a bad thing, but it's not. Soldiers die every day not only fighting for their country, but also for their brothers/sisters on the battlefield. If a man knows that if he jumps on that grenade to save everyone else's life, that he is going to die. Who is going to sit there and call that suicide? I know I wouldn't. A man sacrificed his life for others. Yes it's suicide, but it's not selfish. It's not something bad as some might think suicide is.
Do you believe or agree that there is a honorable form of suicide?

DeleteCan suicide ever be right?
ReplyDeleteIn the victim's eyes it can be because they cannot seem to find anyway out of their situation and they see suicide as their only way out.

Do you believe Euthanasia is acceptable?
ReplyDeleteI believe that it is acceptable if the person being euthanised is only prolonging their inevitable death.
